After a win at Leiston on Saturday, the Tanners looked to win their seventh game on the bounce. They started with an inform Tom Derry upfront - eager for another goal.
Leatherhead began the game on the front foot. Sean's clohessy and Niall McManus particularly, as they found early long range shots from the right wing, bringing the keeper into
action early on. The Tanners managed a few early corners but the scores remained even 20 minutes in.
Leatherhead continued their dominant spell and nearly broke the deadlock through Jerry Nnamani. He found the back of the net from Dan Gallagher's cross only to be called offside.
The Tanners put together some great passing moves towards the end of the first half and had the lions share of possession with very few Merstham chances. The yellows only managed a couple of long shots but nothing too worrying for zaki oulah in the Leatherhead goal.
The second half drew to a close with the scores tied at 0-0 but Leatherhead looking on top. As the teams walked out for the second half, the anticipation for a goal hung in the air.
And a goal did come, and what a goal it was. Ryan Hall of Merstham found the top corner from twenty five yards sending them into the lead. 1-0 Merstham.
In response to this goal, the Tanners brought on D'Sean Theobalds as a creative spark in the centre of the park.
Moments later, Leatherhead nearly found an equaliser through a Jerry Nnamani header. He glanced Sean Clohessy's corner just wide. That was one of many Sean Clohessy crosses as he was having a brilliant game!
Niall McManus also nearly found the net as he tricked his way in the box but his shot was agonisingly wide.
With just 15 minutes to go, a Leatherhead equaliser looked unlikely. But the Tanners persevered and found an equaliser through Jack Midson. The ex-wimbledon forward reached Sean Clohessy's long ball and headed home incredibly. 1-1!
This goal appeared to encourage the Tanners and they pushed for a winner. And amazingly, they managed one! Inform Tom Derry capitalised from the Merstham centre back's slip and slotted the ball home cooly from a tight angle. 2-1 Leatherhead!
There was nearly more late drama as Merstham won a free kick deep in Leatherhead territory. It was a great ball into the box causing all kinds of problems for Leatherhead as they scrambled at the goal mouth. Luckily for the Tanners, the crossbar came to the rescue and they got the ball clear.
After what seemed like an hour of Leatherhead keeping the ball in the corner, the final whistle went and the Tanners secured the 3 points. Thanks very much for your brilliant support as usual and see you on Saturday for Leatherhead Vs Tonbridge Angels at Fetcham Grove.
