Recently-appointed player/manager Sammy Moore takes his Leatherhead FC side to Kent on the far south-east side of England on Friday night to face their latest pre-season opponents, Canterbury City FC.
This will be the first time both Moore and Leatherhead FC play Canterbury City FC, making it a fascinating match-up for both sets of fans and local spectators.
Moore has been brought in from Leyton Orient to play and act as first-team manager following the decision of former manager and Premier League player Jimmy Bullard to step down from his role to “pursue another role in football”.
Former AFC Wimbledon and Oxford United striker Jack Midson also comes in to both play for the Tanners and support Moore on the coaching side of things.
The game will be played at Deal Town's Charles Sports Ground following a recent announcement for both Kent-based sides to ground share.
Leatherhead will be looking to follow up their latest pre-season results against Corinthian, Bromley, Woking and Sheppey with another victory against Canterbury.
This game will offer much needed match fitness for their upcoming Isthmian League Premier Division Season as well as allowing the Tanners to show off their latest additions to the side.
The latest new addition is Yannis Ambroisine who joins from Hayes & Yeading United.
Ambroisine is a French, 6”3 centre-back who can also play right-back and will look to help tighten up the Tanners’ defence.
Sammy Moore, Chike Kandi, Sean Clohessy, Jack Midson , Lee Minshull and Harry Girling have already been added to the side to help achieve the goal of promotion for next season.
Both Moore and Sallis will be hopeful that these latest acquisitions will help his side improve on last season’s 13th place, with all of them playing at National League level or higher during their careers.
Sallis will assist Moore in his role as assistant manager and having recently renewed his contract admits:
“I simply signed for the season due to the support I have received from the board and the chairman.
“I want to help add value to the club on and off the field.
“The fans and sponsors have trusted me and my skill set and I want to formally thank them for that.”
For the game against Canterbury, Moore will have all players’ available (including new signings and possibly trialists) apart from defender Adam Cash who is still out with an injury picked up back in January.
Canterbury will not be an easy test for the Tanners however, as they face a side that last season finished 9th in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division.
Canterbury have already brought in a few new signings to bolster their squad for next season.
Ian Pulman and former reality TV star contestant Danny Wisker have been brought in with Pulman joining from local rivals Herne Bay.
Both have previously played for Canterbury with Pulman as recently as last year, scoring 4 goals in 7 games.
Despite this, Tanners fans will be expecting a strong showing from their side especially with all their new high-level signings including new signing Jack Midson, who I think will show his worth and class again lower-league opposition.
With Leatherhead being a couple of leagues above their opponents, all things point to an away victory but Canterbury will be a handful going forwards following the signing of Ian Pulman.
Star Man: Jack Midson.
Score Prediction: 1-3.
