Leatherhead FC 5 – 1 Kingstonian FC
A week before the start of the season in Leatherhead’s last pre – season friendly, Leatherhead beat ground sharing Kingstonians 5-1 in an impressive display.
However, 3 minutes into the game, this result never seemed probable as the K’s took the lead through Jack Palmer. Good work on the left-hand side left Palmer with the simple task of caressing the ball into the bottom corner after being found 5 yards out as the Leatherhead defence stood and watched.
A good reaction from the tanners who created numerous chances through fantastic work from Jack Midson and co, only to be thwarted numerous times by Kingstonians number 1.
The equaliser was imminent and eventually arrived in the 40th minute when Yannis Ambroisine was gifted a free header 5 yards out, even if there was controversy to whether it crossed the line; Kingtonians protested to no prevail.
Leatherhead started the second half as they ended the first and took the lead in the 47th minute as Calum Davies continued his great form in pre-season to find the top corner after fantastic football from Sean Clohessey and Chike Kandi played the youngster through on goal, who finished emphatically.
Before I had time to take a swig of my pint, Leatherhead made it 3. Kandi this time with a wonderful half volley into the same top corner that Davies found minutes earlier, K’s goalkeeper helpless this time.
Chike Kandi then made it 10 in 9 for pre – season in the 60th minute as his shot was too hot to handle after a pullback found Kandi in more space than he could have ever hoped for.
The Tanners had time for one more as they completed their impressive display with Tre Mitford wrapping up the performance with a fine header into the top corner with ten minutes left to play, for his first goal for the club.
With a week to go before the start of the season, the performance was greeted with optimism for the upcoming season.
