The shareholders and board members of Leatherhead FC and Leatherhead Youth FC have released the following statement.

Joint Statement - Leatherhead FC and Leatherhead Youth FC - May 4th 2017

The shareholders and board members of Leatherhead FC and Leatherhead Youth FC, met yesterday to further discuss the potential merger of the two clubs, and potential move of Leatherhead FC to River Lane at the start of the 2018/19 season.  The meeting was very productive and both sets of shareholders and board members in attendance agreed in full that there was strong support for a merger of the two clubs, however, it was also agreed that there would now be a “Consultation Period” of approximately 3 to 4 months, to further study the proposed move and develop a strategic plan to present to our respective Boards and eventually to members and supporters of each club for approval.

Leatherhead FC Shareholders and Board members in attendance were pleased to hear the plans from the ownership of Leatherhead Youth FC for the redevelopment of the main pitch and stands at River Lane, the building of a new state of the art clubhouse and the full integration of both clubs and their working committees. The stated goal of Leatherhead Youth FC was to take a historic football club, modernize it, grow the fan base and use the platform of a new ground and larger fan base to improve the standard of football with the hope of possibly moving up to National League (Formerly Conference) level in years to come. It was also encouraging to hear that  both clubs Shareholders and Board/Committee Members wanted to make it clear to all supporters, that the legacy, sustainability and growth of Leatherhead FC is foremost in our minds as we contemplate this move. The move will only happen if it is demonstrated that this is in the best interest of both sets of clubs and particularly if the legacy of Leatherhead FC can be maintained at a new ground.

In light of this meeting we have decided to cancel the meeting scheduled for May 9th, 2017. We will hold consultations this autumn and look to vote on the proposed move later in the year.

We thank you for all your support and wish you all an enjoyable summer and off season

Best regards
Leatherhead FC & Leatherhead Youth FC
